Apart from taking a tour around islands in Nha Trang Bay, tourists to the central coastal city are advised to sign up for a scuba diving service to admire the coral reefs.
Diving is a popular activity among foreign tourists, but few Vietnamese take part. However, recently, more locals are discovering a world of colors under the ocean as well as sea creatures and beautiful coral reefs.
A favorite destination for diving is Hòn Mun (Mun Islet). Visitors receive diving suits and fins as well as dive tanks to start training. They learn signs to communicate under water and tips to deal with tough situations.
They then go underwater in their diving suits in a shallow area. Each guest is accompanied by one coach who will give instruction. Finally, guests will dive further into the ocean. Those without prior experience will dive no deeper than 10 metres.
Due to water pressure, tourists might have symptoms of tinnitus or find it difficult to breathe. But after a few minutes, people get used to it.
