Looking for more than a standard sightseeing tour?
I’m Anh, a licensed local tour guide born and raised in Hanoi. Over the past 15 years, I’ve guided travelers from more than 50 countries, helping them discover not only Hanoi’s famous landmarks but also its hidden stories, local neighborhoods, and authentic food.
This private Hanoi city tour is flexible, fully customized, and designed around your interests rather than a fixed schedule.
9:00 AM – Hotel Pick-up & Welcome
Your day begins with a convenient pick-up from your hotel in Hanoi by your licensed local guide and private driver. Before starting the tour, your guide will introduce the day’s itinerary and happily adjust the schedule if there are any places you’d particularly like to spend more time exploring.
This private experience is designed to be flexible, ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable day at your own pace.

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex
Our first stop is the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, one of Vietnam’s most important historical landmarks. Located in Ba Dinh Square, this is where President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam’s Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945, marking the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
You’ll learn about Ho Chi Minh’s remarkable life, his leadership, and why he continues to be deeply respected by Vietnamese people today.
Within the same complex, you’ll also visit Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House, where he chose to live a simple lifestyle despite being the country’s president. Walking through the peaceful gardens offers a fascinating glimpse into his daily life and philosophy.
Highlights
✔ Ba Dinh Square ✔ Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum
✔ Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House ✔ Presidential Palace Gardens
Local Tip
The Mausoleum is closed on Mondays, Fridays, and during its annual maintenance period (usually from June to August). If it’s closed on your travel date, your guide will adjust the itinerary while ensuring you still enjoy the surrounding historical complex.
One Pillar Pagoda
Just a short walk away stands the iconic One Pillar Pagoda, one of Hanoi’s most recognizable landmarks. Built in 1049 during the Ly Dynasty, the pagoda was inspired by a lotus flower emerging from the water, symbolizing purity and enlightenment in Buddhism.
Although small in size, it carries immense cultural and spiritual significance and has become one of Vietnam’s most photographed temples.

Tran Quoc Pagoda
Next, we head to Tran Quoc Pagoda, the oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi, with a history stretching back more than 1,400 years.
Beautifully located on a small island beside West Lake, Tran Quoc Pagoda offers a peaceful atmosphere away from the city’s busy streets. Your guide will explain the development of Buddhism in Vietnam and the unique architectural features of this ancient temple.
Don’t forget your camera—this is one of Hanoi’s most picturesque locations.
Quan Thanh Temple
A pleasant walk brings us to Quan Thanh Temple, one of the Four Sacred Temples that once protected the ancient capital of Thang Long.
Dedicated to Tran Vu, the Taoist deity of the north, the temple showcases impressive traditional architecture and houses a remarkable four-ton bronze statue dating back to the 17th century.
This lesser-known attraction offers visitors a deeper understanding of Vietnamese spiritual beliefs beyond Buddhism.
Hoa Lo Prison Museum
Our next destination is the fascinating Hoa Lo Prison Museum, originally built by the French colonial government in the late 19th century.
During the French colonial period, it held Vietnamese revolutionaries fighting for independence. Later, during the Vietnam War, American prisoners of war nicknamed it the “Hanoi Hilton.”
Your guide will provide balanced historical perspectives, helping you better understand the complex history behind one of Hanoi’s most thought-provoking museums.
12:30 PM – Traditional Vietnamese Lunch
After a busy morning exploring Hanoi’s most important historical landmarks, it’s time to enjoy a delicious Vietnamese lunch at a carefully selected local restaurant.
Depending on your preferences, your guide can recommend famous local dishes such as Pho, Bun Cha, fresh spring rolls, or other authentic Vietnamese specialties. Vegetarian and special dietary requests can also be accommodated.
Vietnam Museum of Ethnology
In the afternoon, continue to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, widely regarded as one of the country’s finest museums.
The museum introduces the fascinating cultures, customs, traditional clothing, and daily lives of Vietnam’s 54 officially recognized ethnic groups through engaging exhibitions and beautifully preserved artifacts.
Outside, you’ll also discover impressive full-scale traditional houses representing different ethnic communities across Vietnam.
This visit provides valuable insight into the incredible cultural diversity that makes Vietnam such a unique destination
Hoan Kiem Lake & Hanoi Old Quarter
Our final stop is the heart of modern Hanoi—Hoan Kiem Lake.
Take a leisurely walk around the peaceful lake while hearing the famous legend of the magical sword that gave the lake its name. This area perfectly blends Hanoi’s ancient traditions with its vibrant modern lifestyle.
Depending on the remaining time and your interests, your guide may also introduce you to hidden streets, local cafés, or recommend the perfect place to enjoy Vietnam’s famous Egg Coffee before returning to your hotel.
4:30 PM – Hotel Drop-off
After a memorable day discovering Hanoi’s rich history, vibrant culture, and local life, we’ll take you back to your hotel.
If you’re planning to continue exploring in the evening, your guide will be happy to recommend excellent restaurants, rooftop bars, shopping areas, or assist you in booking the famous Thang Long Water Puppet Show.
